Many events in life can be difficult or overwhelming; for children, these events can be even more significant and have longer lasting effects. Individuals who experience trauma or other severe life stressors may be left unable to cope with their emotions and having their daily functioning negatively impacted. I am passionate about bringing hope and healing to children who have been through a traumatic or stressful experience. I walk with my clients on a journey of self-discovery, self-awareness, and healing while processing through the traumatic and stressful events they have experienced. My approach is flexible and tailored to each individual client and often involves some aspect of play or creative expression. Through the therapeutic relationship I am able to help clients feel mastery over their emotions and behaviors rather than being controlled by what they have experienced.
I am aware that no single approach is always effective for every individual, with that being said, I have been trained in a range of clinical modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), client-centered and strength-based approaches, trauma-focused approaches (TF-CBT), and am currently working on becoming a registered play therapist.
My educational background includes an undergraduate degree in psychology from Gustavus Adolphus College and a master’s degree in clinical social work from Augsburg College. I am currently a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), board approved clinical supervisor, and co-owner of Aspire Counseling, LLC. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a treatment coordinator for a residential facility for youth. I also have over five years of experiences providing intensive in-home skills training and outpatient therapy to children and adolescents.
I am currently seeing clients in our Hutchinson office on Mondays and Thursdays with plans to expand my hours in the future. I am also working as a school-linked therapist in the Litchfield school district on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
